The only trouble with ditch hunting is often the best ditches butt right up to someone’s CRP field. It can be awfully tough to keep a good dog solely in the ditch and not having them wander into the private property field. I’m not against walking ditches, but have avoided the ones where the dogs are likely to trespass.

I hunt the residents' weekend in early October through the end of January, public (or publicly accessible) land about 97% of the time. Early in the season, I don't start hunting until early/mid afternoon, or possibly even just the last 1-1/2 hours of the day. I rarely pull up to a spot & find it being hunted.1.
