I have a MKII competition target, MKIII Hunter, MKII custom 8 inch barrel, MKII w/pac lite 6 inch upper. The competition target is the most accurate and my favorite. The Hunter comes with a V notch rear sight could not get a really good sight picture with the V and the hi viz front.Ruger started their four different series' of Mark III pistols with four different prefixes. Once sighted in, the advantage of a red dot is a sight easier to place on the target. Most red dot sights use a CR2032 three volt battery with a variable brightness control. I have a red dot on my Mark III Hunter and iron sights on my 22/45. The red dot adds a bit of bulk to the pistol which precludes using a regular holster.

I think the 6 7/8 would probably give you more accuracy shooting iron sights as it gives a longer sight radius, but if you're mounting an optic to it, that won't matter.
