So now "enormous" (128x80) is the largest map size I've heard of being stable. Civ isnt GPU heavy, so a 4090 isnt going to give much increase as opposed to even a 1060. It's more CPU intensive. The best upgrade would be a faster CPU with higher clock speeds.

You should definitely play on online speed. (Online speed is the fastest, and still civ game can take 6hrs) Go for Pangaea. Continents can separate people and make the game more isolated. Yup, just click save map from the save screen, and name it "epic desert start" or something so you can find it. Then you can start a single player game and when you choose the map type, your saved map will be on the list. Pick your civ, difficulty etc and start it up. It's important to note that you aren't guaranteed to start in the same spot.
