So it's likely no one meant you any trauma, but I agree once other people and other stops are added to your trip the risk of something going wrong multiplies.

Per Delta's website they start flying to SXM July 2nd. We don't know how it will be in SXM, or if we want to spend $$$$ if it's going to be stressful. That doesn't sound like a good vacation.
