Jun 6, 2008 · The alternator wires lay across the alternator bracket and one of them had worn through and was arcing on the bracket. When the wire made contact with the bracket it would send the service charging system message. I only had about 4000 miles on the Vette when the problem started. I replaced the worn wire and placed both alternator wires in a loom. Service Charging System on 2005 Corvette. OK, As a dummy, I tried taking my alt apart to paint it. Once I broke the brushes on the voltage regulator. I summonsed professional help. I had a alt repair shop look at it, it took 3 days to get it fixed, they also found a bad diode. Beg, borrow or steal a Digital Multimeter and using the volt meter, check the voltage coming off of the alternator. Neg lead to a chassis ground point and positive lead to the B+ on the alternator.
