Missoula's spring is usually 2 or 3 weeks ahead of Bozeman's. Bozeman has bigger mountains for hiking but Missoula has rafting/floating pretty much right downtown. Both have great beer and tons of places to drink it. Both are university towns that seem to still have a lively summer when the kids leave.

Missoula is the best place to be queer identified in Montana, but it still isn’t great. The community is small and cliquey. There are events but they’re not often and usually not well attended.
