The rifle has only 3 digits in the serial number clearly stamped on the rear stock tang under the lever. The numbers are 590. These are the only numbers I can find on this rifle.

Prices for new and used 39A's were running $475+ so I felt this was a good deal. Any 1887 marlin gun, as far as my research shows, would have no letter prefix. Using my blue book and the brophy book of Marlin firearms, there wasn't yet a Marlin offering in 1887 in 22LR. Their first 22LR lever was in 1891, the model 1891. The models 1891, 1892, 1897 and the 39 are the older 22s that marlin made.

Ok, I brought what Marlin had told me when I looked up the serial number. I was told it is a model '92, 39A, serial number 371153, manufactured in 1963. I only seen the Golden A model manual on Marlin's web site and am wondering if that manual is the same as for my rifle.
