If this clunking, is more of a vibration, and it happens while you press on the brake and hit an irregularity in the road, such as a pothole, then it is normal. It is the ABS (Anti-lock Breaking System) brakes.

About 5 months ago (November) I started hearing this knocking noise coming from the rear driver side area, sounded like something was loose, def metal on metal.
