The best weapon is the one you enjoy using. The mace is not a bad strength weapon. Can't go wrong with a Longsword. It's one of the most versatile weapons for both pve and pvp (top tier in pvp), and after beating the game with nothing but the LS, imo if I had to pick just one weapon, it would be the Longsword, no contest.

Taylormullins 10 years ago #7. Katanas are IMO best dex weapons. Manslayer is excellent for bosses especially if u duel wield 2 or even manslayer and another katana. Murakamo is good if u have strength so is curved dragon great sword. If ur using no shield I suggest 2 katanas or 2 rapiers.

Weapon of choice for speed runners. Battle Axe / Bandit Axe until you find something "better" with a moveset you like. 1H axe has an amazing running attack, running attack-->R2, and an amazing R2/R2 combo. It also does incredible poise damage (stagger). Rarely any need to two hand it for added poise damage.

It may not have as much counter damage as the Rapier, but Dex scaling is hardly ever useful, so the Estoc can get a little more oomph with its higher strength scaling.
