I assume the hammer and trigger on yours are case-hardened and the ejector is blued. If so, you have a nickel revolver from the factory. There should be a “N” on the cyl. face.

Dating a pre-1982 Model 64. Yesterday I bought a pristine perfect Smith and Wesson Model 64 and would like some help in dating the gun. Its serial number is on the bottom of the grip frame and is D5824XX. The only markings opposite the yolk on the frame are simply: "MOD.64". It is not a model 64 "dash" anything, just a Model 64.
