A PIC32 at 80MHz draws around 75mA A dsPIC33F at 40MHz draws around 89mA mmm - think the PIC32 is a little more efficient power wise - they are also looking at improving it even more. Also if you run out of RAM you use even less power.

The DSPIC OSCON register has bit 1 set (LPOSCEN) to enable the secondary oscillator just after the main oscillator is switched from the internal RC oscillator over to the primary oscillator running @ 12MHz.The Primary oscillator never fails to start. The start-up routine then initializes the RTCC with the following code:I suggest you can use MCU build in timer 0 - 8bit mode to output a 100KHz interrupt (10us interrupt period) and toggle a IO. then you can measure with you own counter. When system clock = 48MHz. you should set the clock source of timer 0 = FOSC/4 = 12MHz. Period per each timer increment = 0.083333us.
