Indeed, the option of augmenting the distance from wich a player can be away from the host on a non dedicated or co op server is not working on ARK Survival Ascended. Just most people today wouldn't notice it because most people's PCs are more than able to handle ARK SE with Tether Distance set to say 99 without too many issues. The Host's Computer has to keep track of everything the "OTHER" Players are encountering rather than those objects going into a deep sleep like they do on normal singleplayer.
